Fabbrith Gomez is an attorney in the Central American country of Nicaragua. His job is dangerous.
Most of Fabbrith’s case load is made up of civil matters – real estate deals of Americans and Europeans investing in property or buying vacation beach homes. However, his true passion lies in the area of criminal justice, and in recent years he has found himself at the center of some of the country’s most high profile criminal cases involving politically motivated detentions of American citizens. Few Nicaraguan attorneys are willing to go to bat and defend foreign citizens facing criminal charges in cases in which political undertones are present. Illegal confiscation of private property and acts of violence against American citizens sponsored by the anti-American regime are not rare, especially since Daniel Ortega’s return to power in 2007.
Fabbrith is currently defending the new case of American Jason Puracal, who has been wrongfully charged with money laundering and links to drug trafficking.
